Season Roundup: The Mariners hosted their 2nd All Star game in 2001, first since the 1979 season. The team earned a league best record of 116–46, tying the Major League record for wins set by the Chicago Cubs in 1906 and setting the record for most wins ever for an American League team. Of those wins, 59 were by four or more runs, a record for the number of games won by such a margin. They also led the majors in both runs scored and fewest runs allowed.

Also too, the season was notable for the Major League debut of star Japanese outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, who led the league in batting average and stolen bases, won the AL MVP and rookie of the year honors.

In the post-season divisional round the M’s defeated the Cleveland Indians but would ultimately fall to the New York Yankees in five games.

What they Wore: 2001 marked the 100th season for the American League which was celebrated by a commemorative patch worn on the right sleeve. On the left hand sleeve the Mariners wore the 2001 game patch as Seattle drew the honor of hosting the game and festivities. The Mariners simplified too their alternates worn as they only had the single Navy with Mariners across the chest.

Home

Summary: The Home Jersey remained unchanged with the exception of the 100th American League anniversary patch on the right sleeve and the 2001 All Star game patch on the left.
