2000 Mariners

All Star(s): DH – Edgar Martinez, SP – Aaron Sele, SS – Alex Rodriguez

Season Roundup: The Mariners finished 2nd in the AL West with a record of 91-71 to earn a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

  • Dec 15, 1999 – M’s signed John Olerud
  • Feb 10, 2000 – Ken Griffey Jr. was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in return for Mike Cameron, Brett Tomko, Antonio Pérez, and Jake Meyer (minors)
  • May 19, 2000 – Rickey Henderson was signed by the club as a Free Agent

What they Wore: The year 2000 ushered a new era for MLB uniforms. Out was the Diamond Collection and In was the Authentic Collection. With this, came a few subtle changes for all MLB Jerseys across the league: 1. Jock Tags changed to reflect the transition to the Authentic Collection. 2. The MLB Batterman Logo Patch was added to all MLB uniforms to the neckline on the backside yoke. 3. The Manufacturers wordmark moves from the Right Sleeve to the Left. An interesting note is that the evidence seems to indicate that Jerseys from 1999 were, at times, also used in 2000 as some Players’ Jerseys had the wordmark on the right hand sleeve.

Home Alt, Astro Navy

Summary: Officially, These Jerseys are now manufactured under the ‘Authentic Collection’ era, and most were. However, there seems to be a few jerseys from last year that made their way on to the field. You can see the evidence of that on the in game photo’s by looking for the word mark location on the sleeve. If you see the Russell Athletic ‘R’ on the right sleeve, it most likely has the Diamond Collection Jock tag. But for Jerseys worn this year, the MLB Batterman Logo was added to bring these jerseys in to league compliance.

Full Description: The Astro Navy, manufactured by Russell Athletic, is a Dark Navy (almost Black) double knit Poly with Silver Braid Piping lined down both sides of the front placket. The Mariners team logo patch is worn on the Left Sleeve and the MLB Batterman Logo is located on the backside yoke. The Crest, which is triple-sewn-on Silver-Navy-Teal, is scripted in all CAPS “SEATTLE” horizontally and arched across the chest with a compass rose set in the middle of the S.  The numbers and letters on the back are constructed with double-sewn-on tackle twill Silver with Teal outline.

“Mariners” Alt Navy

Summary: It seems like this Jersey is borderline urban legend that this was the first year this style was worn as we have found no in game photo’s to share (so far). However, The photo shown below clearly shows the proper game tagging for 2000.
