1987 Mariners

All Star(s): P-Mark Langston, 2B-Harold Reynolds

Season Roundup: 1987 would prove to be one of the most marked years in Mariners history, though they wouldn’t know it yet. On the field they began to show some life. Though they would finish 4th in the standings with a 78-84 record, it was their best mark in the teams’ history. The season would end with them only 7 games out of the division lead. Many in the lineup produced and had good years. Harold Reynolds stole a club record 60 bases, Alvin Davis hit .295, 29 HR, and 100 RBI and Mark Langston won 19 games, led the league with 262 K’s and a 3.84 ERA. On September 12, Edgar Martinez, made his Major League debut. Also too that year, on June 02, 1987 the Mariners selected Ken Griffey Jr. with the first overall pick.

What They Wore: This was a major redesign for the M’s. Gone, for the first time was their nautical theme. The Trident uniforms phased out and replaced by a more subdued look.

What has Changed: For the first time Mariners have moved away from the Pullover v-neck to the full Buton-up Jersey. Piping was added along with the new team logo, Crest and overall design. Suffice to say, everything changed.

The Crest is in all capital “MARINERS” with 3 layer, 2 color Blue and Gold twill.
