The year “Mr. Mariner” was born. Alvin Davis began the 1984 season in AAA. After just one game though, he was promoted to the majors and made his debut on Wednesday, April 11. He would homer in his first 2 games and after his first week, Davis had a .370 batting average, a .778 slugging percentage, and a seven-game hitting streak. He reached base in each of the first 47 games of his career, still a Mariners record (through 2017) and was chosen to represent his team at the All-Star Game in San Francisco. He would later be awarded American League’s Rookie of the Year Award honors. He finished the year with a .284 batting average, 27 home runs, and 116 RBI in his first season.

Full Description: The Home White is a double-knit V-neck pullover with solid Blue trim on the collar. These feature the beautiful vertical stripes of this era that start at the collar and run down the length of the shoulder to the sleeve ends. On the Crest, the font for the “Mariners” script across the chest is unique to this era and more detail is shown by the three layer BLUE-GOLD-BLUE twill stack-up. The font on the players identifying number is a sans-serif block and is located below the Crest and on the left. The numbers on back are the same, only larger. The Players Name on Back is solid BLUE twill arched and in Block lettering, sewn on a nameplate.

Full Description: This powder blue double-knit v-neck pullover, by Wilson, has a solid Blue trim on the collar. There are Blue and Yellow elastic stripes that run the length of the shoulder from collar to sleeve ends. “Seattle”, in the same font from ’79-80, are horizontally arched across the chest is done in 3 layer Blue and Gold twill fabric. The numbers in front and back, are done in sans-serif Block, are below the Crest and to the left. The Name on Back, sewn on a nameplate, is a solid blue twill in block lettering.
